Cyclocross World Championships 2017, Day 2

As predicted, conditions for the second day of racing changed dramatically. The snow melted, the ground thawed and all that frozen water turned into liquid water. Mud! At the end of the driest cross season I can remember, the Worlds delivered some proper conditions. The muddier conditions allowed more aggressive, faster racing. Unfortunately, the big thaw also had the effect of exhuming a layer of rubble and metal pipes which ripped through the tubs at such a rate that some riders abandoned for lack of any more spares. Gianni Vermeersch had 8 flats. The battle for the lead was just hotting up when it was cut a bit short. The pictures are nice though, so don’t be put off. A gallery from the first day of the Worlds can be found HERE. This is probably the last report from the season, so thank you all for visiting the site and making this Cyclocross Handbook’s biggest year ever! Keep checking the CXHandbook Facebook Page though, cause you never know what might pop up over the off season.
