Koppenbergcross, Oudenaarde, Belgium

The second of this season’s trips to Belgium takes Cyclocross Handbook to the classic Koppenbergcross. The race is held on the famous cobbled climb and in a cowpat heavy field alongside it. The course has undergone some major changes for this years race, and a diplomatic assessment of it would be, ‘I’m sure we’ll all come to love it as much as the old one!’ In the past it was known for it’s very fast descent in and adjacent field, but now it finishes at the very top of the hill and no longer has the fast sketchy plunge to the line. The captions under the images tell some of the story of the day in the heart of Belgian cycling country.
